Sander is born and raised in Lommel, in the north of Limburg. Two years ago, he moved to Aarschot for love. Now engaged, he shares his home with two dogs, two cats, two chickens, and a pig, animals are clearly his passion.
He graduated from UCLL in Diepenbeek with a degree in Business Management. His career started at Unlocked, a company active in gaming and esports. After that, he worked as a marketing consultant for 1.5 years, on projects with Serviceplan, BNP Paribas, and Saxo Bank. Then he became marketing manager at a small agency of just four people. It was small, but highly educational. After that, Customaite, his previous employer, came knocking. Unfortunately, the collaboration ended prematurely due to circumstances, and he began searching for a new challenge. Just a few days later, he discovered the vacancy at Essensium and applied immediately. And now, here he is, Head of Marketing and ready to make his mark!
Sander is eager to discover everything marketing had to offer and we are happy he joined us!
Can you tell us a bit about your responsibilities?
At Essensium, my role covers all aspects of marketing: from online campaigns to offline events, I’m responsible for it all. I aim to communicate in a clear, accessible, yet professional way. Creativity and flexibility are key to me, and I want to bring a breath of fresh air to Essensium. We have the technology, the team, and the experience, now it’s time to take things to the next level.
What’s the best thing about your job?
What I love most about marketing is being the voice of the company. Internally, you keep colleagues informed about what’s happening. Externally, you make sure your company reaches the right people. It’s a fun mix with a lot of variety. One day you’re creating content, the next you’re at a trade fair abroad. I enjoy the diversity and the contact with stakeholders, customers, and the team.
What are the biggest challenges in your work?
Of course, marketing comes with its challenges. The biggest one? Pleasing everyone. Every colleague has an opinion on content, events, or campaigns. Marketing is highly subjective, and it’s not always easy to balance strong personalities. But that’s our job: to find common ground and deliver the best results for everyone.
Which things are on your bucket list – what do you absolutely want to have done?
When asked about my bucket list, there are a few things. I would love to travel to many different countries. Some that immediately come to mind are Kenya/Tanzania, Costa Rica, and of course the Galapagos Islands, because of their incredible wildlife and nature. Another dream of mine is to one day open a classic Belgian frituur. I’d want to serve the best fries, snacks, and hamburgers in a place where everyone feels welcome and has a great time. And last but not least, starting a beautiful family is also high on my list. I’m engaged, have all my animals, and a lovely house, so the next step is pretty clear.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, he loves experimenting with new barbecue recipes and hosting friends for relaxed outdoor meals. I also am an avid gamer and to balance my indoor hobbies, I keep myself active with fitness, enjoying a mix of strength training and cardio to stay healthy and energized.
